Unwrapping the spirit of Christmas with Swingle Bells
As Christmas draws near, it is hard to stomach the spirit so low with only a few families embracing the mood. For one thing, with my family, the celebration began early in November with much fanfare of hunting for the tree and decorations in the garage and dusting them off to start the road of wishing families and friends well. This a season to be merry after all! While my friend on the otherside, whom shall not be mentioned, was dilly dallying and only promised to set up the tree on 16 December. Now, we were on 14 December at the time, and for the life of me, I could not understand this tragic decision to delay such an incredible fest of ushering Christmas in.

To help cheer me up and reignite my passion, on 15 December 2023, Project CB News’ Golden Oldies and I, embarked on a journey to Monte Casino to watch Swingle Bells. It was raining cats and dogs on the day, but we braved it nonetheless expecting to be blown away.

"Swingle Bells." This festive extravaganza of music was, as the young ones say, da bomb!  Pray to tell, do not think that I have had ten too many eggnogs that I am confused. It is indeed Swingle Bells a twist from the classical "Jingle Bells," which was conducted by the energic Adam Howard of Howard Events, co-created by the brilliant Jonathan Roxmouth, and publicised by the industry's leading specialist, Collett Dawson.

"Swingle Bells" is a family-friendly show that goes beyond offering plain music for entertainment's sake but offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The performance was incredibly heartwarming, and the audience was captivated from start to finish. I was tapping my foot, swinging to the music, that I kept on bumping into the people sitting next to me. They did not mind much because they were also dancing and swaying to Christmas music.
If you were to ask me now what part of the show I enjoyed, the answer would be what part did I not enjoy. I was stunned by Adam on his horn playing a medley with his friends. And then the soulful performance of "Oh Holy Night" by Jonathan knocked me sideways, but boy when sang the "Ave Maria," he took me back to my high school days at St Ursula's Convent in Krugersdorp. The "Ave Maria" brought tears to my eyes and that got a standing ovation from me. I do not know about others because I could not see through my tears, but by George, that performance should be played on national TV throughout Christmas.
"Swingle Bells" is a show for everyone who holds Christmas close to their hearts. Whether you are a believer in Santa, and the story of the arrival of Baby Jesus, just an enthusiast, or someone looking to understand the true essence of the holiday season, this show is the place to go. It will rekindle the letter J which stands for joy in your heart, you will laugh, yourself into appreciating Christmas all over again.
The magic comes alive for 8 performances only from Friday 15th – Sunday 24th December 2023.
