In a compelling State of the Municipality Address, Midvaal Executive Mayor Peter Teixeira painted a picture of progress and promise at the midpoint of his term. Despite facing challenges such as electricity theft and economic stagnation, Teixeira proudly announced Midvaal's tenth consecutive clean audit and its third-year running as the most financially sustainable municipality. "We are halfway there, and we are Excellence in Progress," Teixeira declared, unveiling a robust R1.9 billion budget for 2024/2025. The mayor highlighted significant investments in the area, including a new Sasol petrol station and the R370 million Riverstone Mall project, as testaments to Midvaal's growing economic appeal. Teixeira didn't shy away from addressing ongoing challenges, particularly in infrastructure. He detailed efforts in road maintenance, housing developments, and upgrades to electrical and water systems. The mayor also emphasized the municipality's commitment to social responsibility, citing initiatives such as student financial aid and support for local NGOs. As Midvaal looks to the future, Teixeira projected spending of almost R4 billion over the remaining half of his term, reaffirming his administration's dedication to service delivery, community safety, and sustainable development. "We refuse to become complacent," Teixeira asserted, "as our journey is far from over."
