The taste of home. The taste of childhood, of friends playing under the sky, with no care in the world. Eating is not just about taste; all your five senses are involved. A study found out that 53% of people tend to remember how the food tastes as they travelled, and another study discovered that our brains associate food memories with a time and place. Chef Shimmy, the hero behind the new menus really hit home with this one!
Wednesday the 29th of May 2024 almost feels like doomsday. However, one thing is certain, no matter which political party wins, loadshedding is gearing up for a comeback. This is nothing new, but it does not make it less disappointing for the public
The Podcast Party had its launch at CliffCentral, ahead of the 2024 General Elections on the 29th of May. The three critical thinkers who were asking questions on everyone’s mind were Penuel The Black Pen, Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh and Mighti Jamie – the panellists and activists that are no strangers to politics.
Nothing brings people together under the same sun as much as sports do! That was very evident this past weekend when the nation came together to watch the Springboks fight for that semi-final sport in the Rugby World Cup. The level of anxiety, fear, and excitement was felt by all sports enthusiasts. Social media platforms have all the evidence. South Africa has made quite a reputation in sports, going back a month to the first-ever Sports Rowing Regatta. The very first on African soil!
The Mweni Mountain Marathon is not just run by anyone. The marathon took place on the 6th of May 2023. It was a 40km excruciating experience only done by trail runners or hikers. Well, Daniel Jonck, who is only 16 by the way, had a lot to say about that… or rather prove. He was the youngest participant in the marathon! His most impressive race so far is the Kruger to Canyon 70km stage race. It was run over two days and Daniel was the youngest competitor, and he finished 8th overall!
World Rowing Masters Regatta 2023 is being held in Africa for the first time ever, at the SA National Rowing Course at Roodeplaat Dam, outside Pretoria. The festival of global sport on South African soil is expected to start next month, when the 2023 World Rowing Masters Regatta takes place at Roodeplaat Dam in Pretoria from 21 to 24 September.
t was all fun, glam, music, and empowerment on the 4th of August 2023 at Empact Group as they celebrated Women's Day with an Artistic Unmasking Event. The event took place at their offices in Gqeberha, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. The theme of the event was “Woman You are Art. Unmask Your True Beauty”, which celebrated the beauty and strength of women and took place in collaboration with Artist Proof Studios (APS) and Tears Foundation.
In this important month, the country celebrates women and their unfailing love, compassion, passion, fearlessness, and humility even when the odds are against them. Many young girls are led into the path of womanhood by the women in their lives, whether it is a mother, sister, aunt, or grandmother. For some who do not have a motherly figure in their life, they turn to their spiritual mother at Church. It is for this reason that Pastor A Chitekedza from AFM Word of Life Pretoria, felt it in her heart to teach fellow women what it takes and means to be a woman of substance, through a cooking competition, among many other life lessons, that took place on the 15th of July.
Youth is by far the most frustrating time in life. It is quite a strange period where an individual is not old enough to be on their own, but at the same time, they feel a strong sense of independence. That is so ironic, wouldn’t you say so? The youth is forever on a journey of self-discovery. The Bible represents youth as a time of both danger and challenge. That very same reason is why AFM Pretoria Word of Life held a “Girls of Destiny” one-day conference on the 24th of June 2023. The theme of the one-day conference was ‘Inheritance’.
The ability to work and adapt to changing technology has become integral in all professions. There are some levels of limitations in government funding as well as resources to support and enable youth development. However, locally active grassroots organisations have been playing an incredible role in upskilling youth not only for the Fourth Industrial Revolution but for future employment. As a company that is invested in upskilling the underprivileged community, Robtronics/Dunoworx offers learnerships on how to repair mobile phones and hosted the 2023 Leadership Intake Induction on the 12th of May 2023, with Cell C and Microlek being involved in this youth opportunity programme at the training centre in Sandown Valley Cres, Sandton.
